Yury Arzhanov (1979) earned at St.-Petersburg University his degree in Oriental Studies; he continued his studies at St.-Petersburg University, where he took his PhD in Oriental Studies in 2004. He continued his studies in the field of Christian Oriental Studies in Germany at Tübingen Univeristy. Since 2010 he has participated in the project „Corpus of the Arabic and Syriac gnomologies“ at Halle University, and is now preparing a new edition of the Syriac collections of the Sayings of Menander.
His main research interests concern the medieval Syriac translations of Greek philosophy, especially the Syriac gnomological collections.
